If a patient has a cavity, Dr. Randall may recommend a dental filling. To place a filling, our dentist will remove the decay from your tooth and fill the area with the filling material. Our office offers composite, also called tooth-colored, fillings. They are made of plastic materials. Composite fillings are pleasing to the eye because they are matched to your natural tooth color. Composite fillings are chemically bonded to your tooth, which gives it extra support. Tooth-colored fillings can also be used to fix cracked, chipped, broken, or worn teeth.

To prepare for a filling, our dentist will remove all of the decay with a laser. No anesthetic is needed. Our dentist will then test the area to ensure that all of the decay has been removed. The space will then be cleaned of bacteria and debris. Once the area is clean, our dentist will place the composite filling in layers. A curing light is used to harden each layer as it is applied. When the filling is in place, our dentist will shape the tooth-colored material to the desired result. Any extra material is trimmed off and the final result is polished.
